What is Grecians 2001?
Grecians 2001 is a website that was originally constructed to act as an online yearbook for the 1994 - 2001 year from Christ's Hospital. (CH). However over the years since it was launched it has grown and now provides more interactive content. Over the next few months we hope to be able to open registration to all years from CH enabling all years to benefit.


What is Christ's Hospital (CH)?
Christ's Hospital is a school that is currently based in Horsham, West Sussex. It is a Co-Education boarding school that offers places to children who are in need of a boarding school education. While it is a private school the fees that each pupil pays are based upon the income of their parents, usually around 30% of the pupils pay nothing, and almost all pay less than the maximum. Pupils can also be presented to the school by Corporations or Groups, such as the Army, or by Trust Funds, such as the West's Gifts fund.

What is the history of Christ's Hospital?
Edward VI founded Christ's Hospital in 1552 as one of three 'hospitals' to care for the disadvantaged. The other two were and . CH was originally based in London upon the site of the old Grey Friars Monastery. The original Royal Charter specified that Christ's Hospital should cater for boy and girls, and this was done at two separate sites; the boys in London and the girls in Hartford. Hartford was also boys preparatory school was based. Over the years the school was rebuilt and altered as needs or fire dictated, and in 1897 all the boys sections made the move to Horsham, opening in 1902. Later in 1985 the girls' sections also moved unifying the school. Christ's Hospital has gone from strength to strength and is still fulfilling its Royal Charter to this day.


Is Grecians 2001 affiliated to Christ's Hospital?
No. Grecians 2001 was founded by two Old Blues, and is in no way supported or affiliated to Christ's Hospital..


What is CH short for?
CH stands for Christ's Hospital.


When was Grecians 2001 founded?
Towards the end of 2001, our first visitor was on Tuesday 11th December 2001 - however, that may well have been us testing!


Where did the name for the site come from?
It came from the name of the final year at CH - The Grecians year.


How much does it cost to join the site?
It currently costs nothing! However the site does cost money to run, so if you can please donate to us, for more information please see our donations page.


What is an Old Blue?
An Old Blue is the term for a pupil that was left the school, or 'Old Boy'. It is derived from the schools nickname: The Bluecoat School.


What are the names of the years?
At CH the years are not numbered as they are in British state schools. Rather they each have a special name.

  • Lower Erasmus - LE (yr 9)
  • Upper Forth - UF (yr 10)
  • Greater Erasmus - GE (yr 11)
  • Deputy Grecians - Deps (yr 12)
