While some houses may be able to boast a varied selection of characters, those in Maine A were the most diverse. Ranging from one end of the spectrum to the other,( Justin to Barney) even the times of entry varied considerably. Frank was lost after GCSEs to follow the big fruitcake in the sky as was Nicky B following domestic issues. Sam and Cipi joined as new deps and the former Romped his way through an assortment of dwellings, including the infamous cupboard until finally breaking out into the big bad world of rowing and jolly nice blokes. Dime came with a history of animal testing yet managed to steer clear of Bertha and baby Walsh.

John and Simon have been here since the year dot and it seems as if John will never leave and Simon will never sleep due to the unnatural amount of coffee consumed in eight years. The other senior member of the house was undoubtedly Justin who celebrated his 50th birthday some time in the summer of the G.E. John and Justin earned both kinds of buttons after performing an obscene number of colonic irrigations. Walter was a quiet character on his juniors but came out of his closet for the last two years of his time at school as he learnt how to let his hair down. The most consistent of all people in Maine was Barney. Without fail he could be found in one of several places, inspecting the shrubberies and avoiding the knights who say 'NEE' (or bust), sampling the delicacies of Horsham or the fridge, or chatting to God on the porcelain telephone. Nathan, Paul and Alex spent a large amount of time up at the theatre hating incompetent and lazy thesps like Barney, John and Tom. Tom was renowned for being an all round good bloke yet in the competition of snides with Gabor it would be a tough battle, what was clear was Webby's undoubted ability to 'chirpse'. Dan played with is organ and still says that he never mixes business with pleasure. Steve despite being quiet was a large presence especially in Counter Strike. Forest gimp (Laurie) never stopped running even from girl to girl, a real ladies man due to his skin-tight clothing and absolute confidence in nearly all of his body.

Together it was an indeed bizarre bunch yet they managed to get on in relative peace and harmony, despite various irritations from gigglychopping and locked doors to cesspits and pots. It is credit to Dr.Stuart and Mr.Walsh that violence and conflict were kept to a minimum and we retain(despite Barney)the reputation of being one of the most friendly and clean house groups. It has been said that due to Maine A's propensity to bat for the other side yet when compared to say the number of heterosexual relationship in Lamb A, maybe this name is born of jealousy. Intelligent and stupid , active and lazy, dirty and clean, sober and inebriated we shall march into the future confident that we can live with anyone and anything!
